Location

If you have not visited Cyprus yet, then this is your chance to see the island of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and fertility… An island that has literally risen from the depths of the sea just like its goddess who protects it. A Mediterranean gem to many kings’ and queen’s crowns throughout its long history…

Limasol is the second biggest city on the island located on the southern coast. Known since the ancient times as the kingdom of Amathous. Located very near to Kolossi village, which is known as the place where the crusader knights had their commanding post and the ancient city of Kourion.

Be prepared to see a city full of diverse images of the old and the new combined! A city where the party runs through the blood of the inhabitants and the carnival is celebrated there as nowhere else on the island. A place where the Cypriot Filoxenia [filos=friend +xenos=foreigner] (hospitality) is evident and the cuisine is thriving!

The workshop will take place at the newly renovated Pefkos City Hotel in Limasol, Cyprus and at very good prices too!

Liquid Clay – Just before the year ends…

Before this year ends I would like to bring to mind this brilliant product called Liquid Clay! It comes by all the known clay brands Sculpey, Fimo, Kato…

For starters, I personally find Fimo very sticky and rubbery like to use in jewelry. It has it’s applications in other techniques though and it is also rather clear when cured although one has to be very careful with bubbles, and to avoid them always apply in layers.

On the other hand we have Translucent Liquid Sculpey, even though I mostly use the Primo clay by Sculpey I find myself not so keen on the liquid clay of the brand. I find it a little too thick for application and it is not as clear as the others when cured. Although I really like to use the Sculpey Clay Softener and add it to my Kato Liquid Polyclay.***

And we come to my favorite one Kato Liquid Polyclay. I find Kato to be the clearest of the liquid clays, if you cure it the correct way! And what that means is NOT in your oven. To be cured in perfect lucidity and clearness Kato liquid Clay is best cured by heat gun. Or if you don’t have one and have some patience to spare, an embossing gun!

I searched the internet for a long time for some inspiration on this information that I just shared with you. And then about a year ago I saw Debbie Crothers’ work.  Debbie creates the most luscious, luxurious, looking like glass beads I have ever seen! Then I read her blog and had my mind blown by some of her suggestions on using liquid clay! It was that easy after all… So I started my own trials to achieve her results, but I don’t believe I am there just yet…

Debbie though has been very generous to share her techniques with the world and explain them step by step, and give  little tip after little clever tip! Her tutorials come in video form and she is fantastic! She has humor and is very informative and one just has to love her Aussi dialect!! She is a sweet-sweet person and she graciously agreed to let me share her links for all of you to follow and go get her tutorial. It will really change your view and “clarity” on what liquid clay can do for your work.

Here are some photos of the brilliant results you can achieve by applying this technique.

All the photos were taken from Debbie’s website and can be found in her gallery and blog pages.

Curing Kato Liquid Clay and So Much More with Debbie Crothers really just watch this tutorial and I promise you, your view on liquid clay will change dramatically! I would really love to see your trials and any other new ideas you might have on the use of liquid clay so don’t forget to leave me your comments and links below.

As always be kind to one another

***If you buy the big bottle of the Kato Liquid Polyclay and live in a country like Cyprus where the weather is really really hot and tend to be as forgetful as I am to leave it open then the liquid tends to get a little thicker and more difficult to apply!! I am not very technical on all this but I believe that the softener just adds some plasticizers into the liquid and helps bring it back to its previous form. Even if it is a different brand they both have a similar science behind them so I prefer to use this softener instead of baby oils, olive oils and any other of the suggestions one might find online. It is not that expensive after all and only a few drops will do the job brilliantly and their result will last for a long time.

Ποιά τεχνική να είναι το θέμα σου; Ποιά κατασκευή; Να είναι άραγε κόσμημα ή αντικείμενο;

Ακόμα αναρωτιέστε γιατί ο τίτλος του blog είναι Δημιουργικές Διαταραχές;

Πάμε πίσω λοιπόν να μελετήσουμε αυτή την τεχνική και να κάνουμε έρευνα και να δημιουργήσουμε κάτι νέο και αλλαγμένο! Ποιος την ξεκίνησε; Ποιος την χρησιμοποίησε περισσότερο; Υπάρχουν παραλλαγές;

Εμείς ποία παραλλαγή θα δημιουργήσουμε; Τι καινούριο μπορούμε να προσθέσουμε στη διαδικασία;

Γι’ αυτό θα έρθω και στο ερώτημα της αντιγραφής και αναπαραγωγής σεμιναρίων και εργαστηρίων.  Είτε  αυτά τα αγοράσαμε ηλεκτρονικά είτε μέσα από βιβλία είτε αν παρακολουθήσαμε ένα εργαστήριο από κοντά, δεν είναι σωστό να εκμεταλλευτούμε τον κόπου του εκπαιδευτή και να πάμε να μοιραστούμε αυτές τις γνώσεις με τους φίλους μας!  Πολλοί εκπαιδευτές έχουν αυτή τη δουλειά σαν το κύριο τους επάγγελμα και στην ουσία τους κλέβουμε από το εισόδημα τους αν μοιραζόμαστε τα εργαστήριά τους. Συνεπώς αν θέλουμε αυτοί οι εκπαιδευτές να συνεχίζουν να δημιουργούν και να μας προσφέρουν τα εργαστήρια τους ας σταματήσουμε όλοι την αντιγραφή! Εύκολο δεν είναι;

Euro Clay Carnival 2016 Athens

OK people I told you I was new at this!! This article was supposed to be up two weeks ago, but obviously I messed up! So here it is now…

isthislove

For days I have been trying to find the right way to describe my feelings about this exceptionally organized event. Then I realized that if you are not there you will never feel the same excitement, you will never have the same ideas floating around in your head, and you will not form the same bonds with all the new and old friends from around the world.

ecc_2702_2So I decided to just give my dues to the people who deserve it first. The organizing team! The people that worked tirelessly to prepare the clay for our classes, to make the arrangements for our registrations, to make sure nothing was amiss during the classes and make sure all the attendees were content and comfortable. Thank you Gabi and Maddalena and Fotini and Maria and Manuela, you were irreplaceable and amazing!

And then let us talk about the instructors. The six lovely and unique ladies that traveled from around the world to bring to us the lights of their knowledge, their smiles and good humor, to share their imagination and hard work, give us their techniques and little bits of wisdom, that will make our work more easy and fun!

DONNA KATO  “La Donna” of clay!

Donna Kato is not just the name behind the brand; she is also a charismatic artist, author and a brilliant teacher! Showing of her Ethos, she starts by addressing the great Judith Skinner and how her idea about color blending changed our polymer clay world. Patient and with steady hands she showed us the ways of sculpting and cutting the clay into beautiful geometrical shapes and combining them in accordance to a classic color scheme. Black – white – red!

I loved her way of teaching and her unexpected genuine humor!

BETTINA WELKER the curly haired Goddess of design!

Space, color, shapes and composition! With a background in graphic design Bettina has the apt mind to address her unique design styl
e. Every piece of jewelry she makes is recognizable by sight! Also her perspective on constructing a piece of jewelry is unique. The bracelet design that she instructed was detailed, every single piece had a purpose and did not just look pretty.

JANA ROBERTimag0405S BENZON the color in her eyes…

A magical class… You might imagine how it is made or not, but you will definitely be surprised! I have used alcohol inks before and worked in similar
techniques but the concept of it all it is mind blowing!!

It was a very refreshing class and provided me with an unimaginative for me way of constructing a jewelry with so much movement and lightness.

SYLVIE PERAUD usefulness and elegance!Sylvie.JPG

Sylvie has a subtle way of mischievousness! She will get you when you list
expect it and she did get us! She found use in recyclable materials and used them in her design process in order to make her piece of art more refined in structure and elegance.

She opened our minds into shading, small details and patience in creating…

EVA HASKOVA circling around beauty! imag0426

With the speed of light and with nimble fingers Eva inspired us with the sheer beauty of the skinner blend and the simplicity of a circle!

How simple things and techniques can look amazing? How careful consideration in construction and sizes can improve your design?

Attend a class with Eva and your questions will be answered!

I always had a fascination with circles. I always thought of them as the perfect shape. Eva added to my craziness! I see circles everywhere!!

GABI SIMIGDALA the natural beautygabi

Her way of replicating natural looking coral, stone and decayed metal is almost up to perfection!

She took into consideration the weigh, the natural shades of colour and discoloration and created a class worthy of any! Taking care of the basics and the difficult, the delicate and rougher aspects of nature Gabi took us on a journey on a magical beach and brought us back with a lovely, sea relic necklace!

And last but not least the brilliant participants of the event! Each and every one I thank you for your generosity, your good spirits, your swap gifts, your laughter and most of all your friendship! I was fascinated by your ideas. I was and inspired by your creativeness. I was honored by your friendship! See you soon my dears!

Till the next time, be good to one another!
