The Creative Adventure begins on Friday, 17th of May with a Creative Juices Tour at the Kourion archaeological site.  We can study the mosaics at the house of Eustolios and get our creative juices running for Christi’s Mosaics workshop. Speaking of juices, we could also have some fun visiting a winery at Omodos village to taste some Cypriot vinos and a local tavern for some Cypriot treats!!

[The day will be finalised depending on the number of participants – additional fees may apply*]

Saturday, the 18th of May the adventure continues and we dive into the deep with a full day of Christi teaching her incredible class on Polymer and Mixed Media Mosaic Explorations.

And on the final day Sunday, 19th of May we will delve in the bizarre and creative world of Christi’s Artful Vessels.

At nights we will get all adventurous and excited for outings in the city of Limassol and enjoy the lovely atmosphere of the old town, the local cuisine and have lots of fun!

Class descriptions:

mosaicWorkshop

Polymer & Mixed Media Mosaic exploration

In this workshop we will explore creating sculptural mosaics from polymer clay and incorporating those elements into a more traditional mosaic setting. You will create basic forms from polymer and cover it with hand-cut tiles made from polymer sheets and veneers. You will play with textures, surface treatments and other tricks to make your sculptural form intricate and sophisticated. You will combine the sculptural form with a mosaic composition where you will learn about substrates and adhesives and all the many things that can be added to make a rich and varied mixed media design.

  • This workshop is open to all skill levels.
  • Most materials will be provided.

artful-vessel

Artful Vessels

In this workshop we will explore creating art vessels from polymer clay using bases and armatures. You will learn how to create forms and extensions to add interest to your vibrant and original art vessel. Emphasis will be on design and form-building as well as creating clay blends, using surface treatments and textural elements as well as adding beads and other embellishments. You will combine sculptural techniques and decoration tricks to create a unique art piece.

  • This workshop is open to all skill levels.
  • Most materials will be provided.

For any additional tools or materials that might be needed you will be notified in advance.

Location

If you have not visited Cyprus yet, then this is your chance to see the island of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and fertility… An island that has literally risen from the depths of the sea just like its goddess who protects it. A Mediterranean gem to many kings’ and queen’s crowns throughout its long history…

Limasol is the second biggest city on the island located on the southern coast. Known since the ancient times as the kingdom of Amathous. Located very near to Kolossi village, which is known as the place where the crusader knights had their commanding post and the ancient city of Kourion.

Be prepared to see a city full of diverse images of the old and the new combined! A city where the party runs through the blood of the inhabitants and the carnival is celebrated there as nowhere else on the island. A place where the Cypriot Filoxenia [filos=friend +xenos=foreigner] (hospitality) is evident and the cuisine is thriving!

The workshop will take place at the newly renovated Pefkos City Hotel in Limasol, Cyprus and at very good prices too!

#HeartArt Attack!!

Love conquers all… All you need is Love… Love is Blind… Love is unselfish… Love does not judge… Love is crazy, mad, wonderful… Happy Valentine’s Day to you all!

In our case Love is creative!! Today I decided to keep up with my artist of this month, my dear Christi Friesen and I will prompt you all to visit the Christi’s Creative Neighborhood group on Facebook and febwhatshapningenjoy the most creative Heart Attack ever!! So many talented creators, artists, makers! All of this inspiration and love for polymer!

Back in The Circle (the paid membership side of the Neighborhood) the theme of February is “All You Need is Love” and so Christi decided she would announce a contest!

And the contest goes like this: Go to the Neighborhood (on FB) and post a picture of any kind of HEART ART  made by any kind of  material  and at the end of the month THREE random lucky ones will win one of Christi’s texture sheets named ‘HeartZ‘!!

So go post your own image on the page of Christi’s Creative Neighborhood group on Facebook and add the #heartArt. Using the # hashtag helps others find your work!

Here is a small sample of some of the posts and their creators!!

Firstly some of Christi’s own creations! Artful and whimsical, baroque and steampunk, romantic and stylish however you call them they are but just beautiful! I am the proud owner of two of her hearts and I adore them!!

wp-1487070038911.jpg

How about  these gorgeous heart pendants, made of  resin  by Leila Bidler? It is a series of six in rainbow colours. Don’t they look fantastic?

wp-1487070039203.jpg

Don’t tell me there is someone of you polymer clayers out there that doesn’t love the mokume gane technique!  This is Dani Rapinett of The Whimsical Bead all the way from “down under” with these loving beads in purple pink and gold!

wp-1487070039208.jpg

This colourful translucent trio is the creation of the Oklahoma based Michele Hinchey. Her favorite quote is about love of course!

“Love look not with the eyes but with the mind and therefor is winged Cupid painted blind” Shakespeare

On the other hand, Lilian George makes voodoo dolls from recycled materials called “Gnarfles” and they also inspire her line of valentine cards! Now tell me how cute are these little dudes?

wp-1487070039281.jpg

Rita Hammock calls this piece ‘Where do broken hearts go, Well they go over the rainbow’ it is worked with wool strips. She worked on this piece while working through her grief over the terrible event of ‘The Pulse’ nightclub shooting.

wp-1487070038938.jpg

Now let’s get real with the work of Amy K Hucks, literally!

She made this hand sculpted heart from pictures. It was made for a hard surgeon… of course!

wp-1487070039270.jpg

How about some wall art?

This is the work of the italian Ilenia Moreni!

With a bit of ‘love and devotion’, polymer clay, some Swellegant, linen fabric and brass chains this heart is ready!!

She is also a fellow blogger!

And here is where I am going to put an end to this post! Any more hearts and I will get a #HeartArt Attack! 🙂  Now go to Christi’s Creative Neighborhood group and get your own!

Until the next time, be good to one another!

Ποιά τεχνική να είναι το θέμα σου; Ποιά κατασκευή; Να είναι άραγε κόσμημα ή αντικείμενο;

Ακόμα αναρωτιέστε γιατί ο τίτλος του blog είναι Δημιουργικές Διαταραχές;

Πάμε πίσω λοιπόν να μελετήσουμε αυτή την τεχνική και να κάνουμε έρευνα και να δημιουργήσουμε κάτι νέο και αλλαγμένο! Ποιος την ξεκίνησε; Ποιος την χρησιμοποίησε περισσότερο; Υπάρχουν παραλλαγές;

Εμείς ποία παραλλαγή θα δημιουργήσουμε; Τι καινούριο μπορούμε να προσθέσουμε στη διαδικασία;

Γι’ αυτό θα έρθω και στο ερώτημα της αντιγραφής και αναπαραγωγής σεμιναρίων και εργαστηρίων.  Είτε  αυτά τα αγοράσαμε ηλεκτρονικά είτε μέσα από βιβλία είτε αν παρακολουθήσαμε ένα εργαστήριο από κοντά, δεν είναι σωστό να εκμεταλλευτούμε τον κόπου του εκπαιδευτή και να πάμε να μοιραστούμε αυτές τις γνώσεις με τους φίλους μας!  Πολλοί εκπαιδευτές έχουν αυτή τη δουλειά σαν το κύριο τους επάγγελμα και στην ουσία τους κλέβουμε από το εισόδημα τους αν μοιραζόμαστε τα εργαστήριά τους. Συνεπώς αν θέλουμε αυτοί οι εκπαιδευτές να συνεχίζουν να δημιουργούν και να μας προσφέρουν τα εργαστήρια τους ας σταματήσουμε όλοι την αντιγραφή! Εύκολο δεν είναι;

Euro Clay Carnival 2016 Athens

OK people I told you I was new at this!! This article was supposed to be up two weeks ago, but obviously I messed up! So here it is now…

isthislove

For days I have been trying to find the right way to describe my feelings about this exceptionally organized event. Then I realized that if you are not there you will never feel the same excitement, you will never have the same ideas floating around in your head, and you will not form the same bonds with all the new and old friends from around the world.

ecc_2702_2So I decided to just give my dues to the people who deserve it first. The organizing team! The people that worked tirelessly to prepare the clay for our classes, to make the arrangements for our registrations, to make sure nothing was amiss during the classes and make sure all the attendees were content and comfortable. Thank you Gabi and Maddalena and Fotini and Maria and Manuela, you were irreplaceable and amazing!

And then let us talk about the instructors. The six lovely and unique ladies that traveled from around the world to bring to us the lights of their knowledge, their smiles and good humor, to share their imagination and hard work, give us their techniques and little bits of wisdom, that will make our work more easy and fun!

imag0410

DONNA KATO  “La Donna” of clay!

Donna Kato is not just the name behind the brand; she is also a charismatic artist, author and a brilliant teacher! Showing of her Ethos, she starts by addressing the great Judith Skinner and how her idea about color blending changed our polymer clay world. Patient and with steady hands she showed us the ways of sculpting and cutting the clay into beautiful geometrical shapes and combining them in accordance to a classic color scheme. Black – white – red!

I loved her way of teaching and her unexpected genuine humor!

imag0448

BETTINA WELKER the curly haired Goddess of design!

Space, color, shapes and composition! With a background in graphic design Bettina has the apt mind to address her unique design styl
e. Every piece of jewelry she makes is recognizable by sight! Also her perspective on constructing a piece of jewelry is unique. The bracelet design that she instructed was detailed, every single piece had a purpose and did not just look pretty.

JANA ROBERTimag0405S BENZON the color in her eyes…

A magical class… You might imagine how it is made or not, but you will definitely be surprised! I have used alcohol inks before and worked in similar
techniques but the concept of it all it is mind blowing!!

It was a very refreshing class and provided me with an unimaginative for me way of constructing a jewelry with so much movement and lightness.

SYLVIE PERAUD usefulness and elegance!Sylvie.JPG

Sylvie has a subtle way of mischievousness! She will get you when you list
expect it and she did get us! She found use in recyclable materials and used them in her design process in order to make her piece of art more refined in structure and elegance.

She opened our minds into shading, small details and patience in creating…

EVA HASKOVA circling around beauty! imag0426

With the speed of light and with nimble fingers Eva inspired us with the sheer beauty of the skinner blend and the simplicity of a circle!

How simple things and techniques can look amazing? How careful consideration in construction and sizes can improve your design?

Attend a class with Eva and your questions will be answered!

I always had a fascination with circles. I always thought of them as the perfect shape. Eva added to my craziness! I see circles everywhere!!

GABI SIMIGDALA the natural beautygabi

Her way of replicating natural looking coral, stone and decayed metal is almost up to perfection!

She took into consideration the weigh, the natural shades of colour and discoloration and created a class worthy of any! Taking care of the basics and the difficult, the delicate and rougher aspects of nature Gabi took us on a journey on a magical beach and brought us back with a lovely, sea relic necklace!

And last but not least the brilliant participants of the event! Each and every one I thank you for your generosity, your good spirits, your swap gifts, your laughter and most of all your friendship! I was fascinated by your ideas. I was and inspired by your creativeness. I was honored by your friendship! See you soon my dears!

Till the next time, be good to one another!

Recovering from virus!!

English text follows

Well after consideration I decided that if I am going to write this blog I am going to have to write in English as well.

My latest post was about sharing what kept me company during two weeks of recovery from a gastroenteritis virus that manager to send me to the ER, twice!

I never used to follow the US elections, but this year has provided the world with very interesting campaigns. Both hilarious and frightening I might add.

So all this days I spend at home Donna Greenberg‘s “Styling of Hillary in Polymer” has been the highlight of my days. She came up with the idea of styling her favorite candidate with her own creations. Hillary is known for her monochrome power suits and a little oomph is just what she needs!

I found this to be a great marketing idea! Both in promoting her favorite candidate in a way her campaign managers never thought of and also in reminding us of her own beautiful work!

She started 18 days before the elections and today at day 9 she has already cooked up 10 different styles. Here are some snapshots from her page on facebook along with her own comments!

Till the next time, and in the words of my favorite Ellen, be good to one another!

W.I. P. Στα σκαριά!

W.I.P. = Work in Progress ή αλλιώς “Δουλειά στα σκαριά”!

imag0209_1

imag0208
